Collection and return of shared equipment reservations


An external sharing partner can read out the equipment they reserved from their sharing partner once the equipment owner has approved the reservation. (See: Reserving shared equipment and accepting the reservation).


Reading out shared equipment in a web browser


In the web, reading out equipment requires a QR code scanner connected to your computer.

  1. Open the page of the reservation you made in your Trail environment
  2. At the top right of the page, you will see a 'Read Barcode' field

a. If you don't see the field, it means the equipment owner has not yet approved the reservation

  1. Scan the codes of the items you reserved into the 'Read Barcode' field

a. Note that in Trail Sharing, you have reserved individual items from your sharing partner, so it's essential to read out the correct item

  1. Trail displays a notification of successful read-out. The identifier of the reserved item turns blue, and a timestamp appears in the scan history for the collection

Returning shared equipment in a web browser

  1. Open the reservation for the equipment you want to return
  2. Scan the codes of the equipment you're returning into the 'Read Barcode' field


  1. Trail notifies you of a successful return and changes the identifier color of the returned equipment to green
  2. When all items are returned, Trail marks the reservation as 'Returned' in the reservation list

Reading out shared equipment on a mobile application

  1. Open the Trail mobile application
  2. Select the reservation you made for your sharing partner's equipment from your reservations
  3. Open the mobile application's scanner by tapping the scanner icon at the top of the application

  1. Read out the equipment you reserved

Returning shared equipment on a mobile application


  1. Open the reservation in the mobile application for the equipment you want to return
  2. Open the mobile application's scanner by tapping the scanner icon at the top of the application
  3. Scan the identifiers of the equipment you are returning

  1. Trail marks the successfully returned equipment as 'Returned' in the system
